BOX OFFICE: ‘Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker’ has a $44M Thursday, $200 million weekend to come?

All the opening weekend projections for the “last” film in the latest “Star Wars” have been in the $170 million range.

With the film slightly underperforming compared to “Last Jedi” Thursday night, that seems reasonable. $45 million was “Jedi” managed, $44 is the preliminary tally for “Skywalker.”

If the number was somewhat higher — lots of sold out shows, Disney isn’t saying how much yet –Deadline com thinks a $200 million weekend is possible.

Not likely but we will see. I figure there’s a $billion in it without even breaking a sweat and $200 would be a surer indicator of that.

“Jumanji” should have a steep fall off this weekend.

Theaters are turning over most of their screens to “Rise of Skywalker,” so Oscar contenders and other serious fare, and some lame holdovers, are losing screens and audience.
