Keanu Reeves and a couple of girls half his age are “Generation Um…”
“It gets worse when you get older.” Yeah, Keanu, it does. “On the nose” casting, putting Reeves in the lead role where he’s both confused, “dumb,” and somehow irresistible. “Generation Um…” opens in late May.

Movie Review: Toni Collette isn’t the only one who’s “Mental”
In his salad days, Aussie director P. J. Hogan specialized in daft, edgy comedies about wildly eccentric characters, people so giddy they’d burst into song when words failed them. And the world fell in love with Toni Collette’s ABBA obsession … Continue reading

Today’s first screening — “Spring Breakers”
Rude, crude, edgy and dark, here’s a movie that finally lets Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Selena Gomez abandon whatever “good girl” image they have and take us on a down and dirty ride about college girls robbing people to … Continue reading

Today’s interviews, Chris O’Dowd and Deborah Mailman of “The Sapphires”
He first gained notice in “Bridesmaids,” as the inexplicably Irish Wisconsin State Trooper. She’s been a mainstay of Australian film since “Rabbit Proof Fence,” one of the most accomplished Aboriginal actresses ever — “Bran Nue Day,” “Mental,” and now, as … Continue reading

Movie Review: “The Call”
Rare is the thriller that goes as completely and utterly wrong as “The Call” does at almost precisely the one hour mark. Which is a crying shame, because for an hour, this is a riveting, by the book kidnapping, an … Continue reading

Obsession, defined by Merriam-Webster, is“ a persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling.” One of the more benign things people can get obsessed with is a movie, watching and re-watching it, memorizing it, poring over its details … Continue reading
