“Monsters University” rode a decent Thursday night and blockbuster all-day Friday to a $27-28 million start to the latest summer blockbuster weekend — $75 million will be in Pixar’s bank by Monday AM.

“World War Z” had a huge Friday as well and looks on track to do $55 million or so.

That pushes “Man of Steel,” which opened bigger than either of these last weekend, to third place — another $45-50 million or so by Sunday night — 60% drop from the opening weekend.

These numbers are spot on with studio projections for the weekend, with “Monsters” enjoying the second biggest Pixar opening ever (the original “Monsters” did over $62 million — 12 years ago.).
