Saturday’s box office numbers solidified the hold “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” has on the top spot for St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Over $21 million in its second week. It will be lucky to get in the ballpark of $100 million, with Disney’s “Muppets” taking away its thunder next weekend.
“Need for Speed” tailed off considerably on Saturday and now looks to make about $18 million this weekend, or just north of it.
“The Single Moms Club” tumbled as well and won’t do much better than $8 million, thus the wisdom of Lionsgate getting out of the Tyler Perry business.
“Veronica Mars”, fan financed and fan pandering, may hit $2.2 million on 291 screens. It’s in the black and will be even more so thanks to the kickstarter financing, sale to Warners and Warners giving it just enough screens to pay for itself.
“Frozen” is very very close to $400 million, but may not make it as home video takes the last of its money and it loses screens next weekend.
“Monuments Men” hangs around the top ten.
But “The Grand Budapest Hotel” is well within the top ten, on a fraction of the screens that “Mars” is.
What is the deal with Budapest??? It still has opened anywhere in my state (Arkansas). These ‘select cities’ releases for a film that has flooded us with TV spots makes no sense to me.
Platform release. His movies rarely do much more than Woody Allen business, so limited, then wider this weekend.
