SAG (Screen Actor’s Guild) honors “American Hustle,” Cate and Matthew, Producers go for “Gravity,” “12 Years a Slave”

oscarsThe weekend’s round of awards shows produced one modest surprise. The Screen Actor’s Guild gave best supporting actress to Adepero Oduye from “12 Years a Slave.” That’s a performance that critics have boosted into the limelight, and it’s nice to see her recognized.

SAG also honored the stars of “Dallas Buyer’s Club” — best actor Matthew McConaughey, best supporting actor Jared Leto, with Cate Blanchett sweeping in to take another “Blue Jasmine” honor.

“American Hustle” took best ensemble.

That puts the Producers Guild split vote of “Gravity” and “12 Years a Slave” in a new light. Is this now a three way best picture race? Yes it is.
