Box Office: “Hobbit” leads “Anchorman”, “Hustle opens well, “Dinosaurs” bombs

It’s a pretty close race for this weekend’s box office title, closer than one might have expected. But then, “The Hobbit” is a bit of an underperformer. And heaven knows, Will Ferrell & Co. have been selling the heck out of “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”

“Desolation of Smaug” looks to end the weekend in the low $30s, “Anchorman 2” right around $30.

“American Hustle” is doing a $19-20 million opening, not bad for a serious Oscar contender.

“Walking with Dinosaurs 3D” isn’t reaching the very young audience and its parents that it needs to. Under $10 million, maybe $8 million.

“Hunger Games” has faded after making over $370 million. Domestically.

“Madea” is sliding off the table.
