A big Thursday and Friday have given “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” a blockbuster opening weekend. Nearly $27 million Thursday and Friday point to a $71 million+ take by midnight Sunday.
Families have been dying to get out to something other than “Sing 2,” and Disney was reluctant to release “Turning Red” in theaters, and there you have it — pent-up demand.
“Morbius” is falling off a cliff, with a $10 million weekend representing a 74 percent plunge from it’s opening weekend. It’s still cleared $100 million worldwide, and counting, but this should give the sequelizers at Sony pause.
“The Lost City” had another big Friday and looks to take in over $9 million by Sunday. It’s the only fun “date movie” in wide release. More pent up demand? It will clear $70 million early this week and might finish its run with $100. Might.
“Ambulance” is underwhelming at the box office with a limp $8 mil opening. That won’t cover the cost of all the cop cars Michael Bay crashed.
“The Batman” added another $6.5, based on Friday numbers and a full weekend projection. That puts it on the cusp of clearing the $360 million mark. It won’t make it to $400 million, domestic. But it’ll come close.
“Everything Everywhere All At Once” opens wide and promptly pulls in over $2 million Friday on track for a $56million or so “wide” weekend. That puts it over $8.4 million in total, including its limited release last week.
