Bekmambetov joins Michael Bay for “Heatseekers” — It’s about “aerial pirates?”

Michael “Big Action/Bigger Explosions” Bay is producing a new thriller about an ex-military pilot who takes on airborne pirates.

The Hollywood Reporter says that it’s titled “Heatseekers,” but apparently Bay isn’t interested in directing it himself. The guy he lined up, the once-promising Timur Bekmambetov, last did “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” one of the worst movies of last year.

The director of the Russian vampire thrillers “Daywatch” and “Nightwatch” is in need of a comeback. Might this be it?
