Every now and then I think of Jean-Jaques Annaud, the French director whose eye for the remote, the still-wild corners of the planet, made such films as “Quest for Fire” and “The Bear” marvels of their age.
An epic filmmaker who has seemed out of fashion since then, his next film, “The Day of the Falcon,” seems just as gloriously old fashioned as he is.
Antonio Banderas and Mark Strong star in this Middle Eastern epic, which Deadline.com reports will go into Video On Demand on Feb. 1, and into limited release on March 1.
It is based on a 1957 novel by Swiss writer/racecar driver and activist Hans Ruesch.
