Today’s first screening: “Kon Tiki”
I’ve read a lot about Thor Heyerdahl and his various sea-tested “theories” about human migration/colonization. Seen the early docs about him. Now, there’s this narrative feature, which I’ve been dying to see. I hope its “Real Adventure Has No Limits” … Continue reading

“RED 2” — they lost Oscar winners, brought in two new ones
I am a sucker for the “RED” trailers. The first film was old school, sold with Bruce and Helen and Malkovich and Aerosmith — a hilarious trailer. This time, with Richard Dreyfuss killed off (Morgan Freeman too? Can’t recall.) and … Continue reading

Movie Preview: “Prince Avalanche,” with Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch
David Gordon Green seems to be returning to something like his indie (“George Washington,””Undertow”) roots with this father-son “bonding” comedy. Maybe filtering his zero-box office days through a more commercial post-Apatow/”Pineapple Express” lens. “Prince Avalanche” is a two-hander, set in … Continue reading

Next Screening: Francois Ozon’s “In the House,” with Kristin Scott Thomas and Fabrice Lucchinis
This looks to be a creepy account of a teen lit student observing — a little too closely — a classmate’s family and homelife — for a series of essays for a favorite teacher. Ozon (“Potiche”) plays up the playful, … Continue reading

Next screening: Kate Bosworth and Lake Bell face the terrors of “Black Rock”
Three friends go back to their childhood haunt, a small island. Where three seemingly friendly hunters run across them. “Black Rock” opens in mid-May.
Tonight’s screening: “Stories We Tell”
Sarah Polley’s new documentary is about how we tell the tale of our lives. Some of us bury the lead, some go on and on, fixating on the trivial and repeating themselves (I am related to a few of those). … Continue reading

“Thor: The Dark World” doesn’t look like much fun
A good looking but dark and humorless trailer to the comic book sequel, due out in October.

“Star Trek Into Darkness” goes VERY “Wrath of Khan”
Here’s a clip, from the studio, supposedly not a spoiler. But “Into Darkness” has a noble sacrifice touch, a “Wrath of Khan” ancestry. The characters seem eerily like their forebears. Check it out.

“Man of Tai Chi” — Keanu’s most inscrutable choice ever?
Here’s the Chinese trailer for Keanu Reeves’ Chinese thriller “Man of Tai Chi.” It’s an odd choice, even for the quixotic Keanu. We should be seeing a subtitled version of it before summer is out. Keanu is a cannier fellow … Continue reading

Movie Preview: Mads Mikkelson in “The Hunt”
Thomas Vinterberg’s Danish drama “The Hunt” is about a seemingly innocent man being accused of child abuse. It is built around a riveting performance by Mads Mikkelson, who has graduated from “Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself” and being a bad … Continue reading
