And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Ron Howard’s Formula One bio-pick about the rivalry between James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Nikki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl) promises speed, death and sex. Because Olivia Wilde’s in it. “Rush” opens in September. Will … Continue reading

First off, Ryan Reynolds was BORN to voice cartoons. As was Samuel L., Luis Guzman, Kurtwood Smith, Maya Rudolph. This comes out July 17, but the Brickyard tie-in means this is how they’re pushing it Memorial Day weekend.

Movie Preview: “Walking with Dinosaurs” has a whiff of “Land Before Time” about it

Kind of a goomba “Don Juan” take, with the Jersey Shore-ish JG Levitt devoting his life to his Chevelle, his body (working out), his church and his porn. Until movie loving hottie Scarlett Johanssen steps into his life and all … Continue reading

Movie Preview: “Metallica, Through the Never”
Know what you’re saying…”Another Metallica documentary?” Me too.
Would this Benedict Cumberbatch shower scene have helped “Star Trek”?
Not a bad movie, as I said in my review. But not much fun, either. Nice of J.J. Abrams to drop this nugget on Conan O’Brien. Who remembered the redhead was still on?
Movie Preview: “Wolverine,” the best trailer yet
I’m still not sold that they have anywhere to take this character. But the distant (WWII) past, derived from a thread the comic books tugged at years ago, is mildly intriguing. This is the most impressive, action-packed and brooding trailer … Continue reading

Movie Preview: “Man of Steel” gives us the new General Zod
Nobody adores the great Michael Shannon more than me. But this monologue “message to Earth” trailer lacks that wicked English accent I so loved in Terrence Stamp’s Zod. He’s plenty scary, but the exotic “otherness” of Zod calls for a … Continue reading

Today’s screening: “The Way Way Back”
This coming of age comedy is about a lonesome lad (Liam James) who learns about life and girls from irreverent father figure Sam Rockwell (and who wouldn’t?) while spending the summer with his mom (Toni Collette) at her boyfriend’s (Steve … Continue reading
