BOX OFFICE: “GOAT” and “Wuthering” hold off “I Can Only Imagine 2”

The only new movie to open wide this weekend, the sequel faith-based music drama “I Can Only Imagine 2,” did passable Thursday night numbers and a middling Friday and appears headed towards a $9 million or so — plus or minus a $million — opening weekend.

The Sunday audience is often make-or-break for faith-based fare, and as this one features Dennis Quaid and Milo Ventigmilia, Arielle Kebbel and Sophie Skelton and John Michael Finley and is based on the further adventures of a Christian pop singer, we’ll see.

So the weekend will belong to the animated basketball comedy “GOAT” or (more likely) the second weekend of the Margot Robbie “Wuthering Heights.” Deadline.com figures it’s a tossup $12-14 million for each.

“Crime 101” should come in fourth with a $6-7 million take.

The Rachel McAdams star vehicle directed by Sam Raimi, “Send Help,” is set to finish fifth, adding $4 millionish pushing it over $55 million since it opened in January.

“Solo Mio” leaves Kevin James out of the top five.

“Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die,” “Zootopia 2,” “Avatar: Fire & Ash” and “Dracula” will battle newcomers in limited release — “How to Make a Killing” and “Psycho Killer” for spots in the second five of the top ten.

The newcomers aren’t getting any help from reviews, so we’ll see what we see Sunday afternoon.
